Prof. Alastair Wilson - Quantum Metaphysics

Edinburgh University Philosophy Society Lecture Series 2020/21 Co-hosted with the Edinburgh University Physics and Astronomy Society PhysSoc: https://www.eusa.ed.ac.uk/activities/societies/society/physsoc/ Alastair Wilson's FraMEPhys Project: https://framephys.org/ Talk Date: 12/11/2020 Speaker: Professor Alastair Wilson, University of Birmingham Title: Quantum Metaphysics Abstract: Philosophy, specifically natural philosophy, used to be our main route to understanding the deep underlying structure of reality. Physics emerged out of natural philosophy during the Scientific Revolution, and over the past few centuries it has come to seem as though physics is all we need to understand the natural world. But is there still any role for philosophy to play? In this talk we'll see how metaphysics and physics can work together to help us understand some of the deepest mysteries of nature: chance, possibility and necessity.
